We are still working on this issue. To help narrow down the cause, everyone visiting through comic.xyliatales.com or the RSS feed from that site, please change your bookmarks! The current site and feed can be found at http://xyliatales.com.
I also just updated the comicpress version tonight, but I have to get up early tomorrow for medical biophysics, so you’ll excuse me please if there’s some dust in the corner I haven’t had a chance to sweep out.
If you can’t view the comic still, please stop pestering Barb about it. You may send your complaints to me. That’s my job, ‘yo. Comment here and I’ll automatically receive them. What wonderful magic.
If you have Norton or MacAfee antivirus installed, you might also try adding http://xyliatales.com* to your safe-viewing list. Those 2 programs have been notorious for blocking keenspot/comicgenesis comics. I’ll update this post as new facts come to light.

I’m working with Barb to resolve her computer issues – It started out as a corrupted user account, and after moving her to a new user account, all was well. Until she tried to re-install her scanner driver, which completely hosed the OS. One archive and reinstall later, she tried again, with the same result. When I last spoke to her, she was doing the archive and reinstall again, and was going to try a different tactic to install the scanner driver. Failing that, she’s going to have to use a third-party driver, which is going to cost about $50.00.
I swear to the gods, if I have to drive out to Barb’s place personally, I *will* help her get her computer back up and running.

I can now magically see last week’s, but not the current update. The direct link also refuses to load for me–it comes up a blank page.
September 16th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
The direct link doesn’t even load? That doesn’t make any sense. ARRGGHHH.
I just overwrote the file so it will have PC image encoding. Any change?
September 16th, 2009 at 6:10 pm
The direct link also does not load for me. I’ve always been able to see previous pages, I just can’t see the current page. I do not have norton or mcafee antivirus protection software, and I am using the updated link as my bookmark.
Man, the suspense is killing me, isn’t there any other way you can post the image for us?

I haven’t been able to see the comic for the last two weeks. I’m running XP and the same version of Firefox as Kez. Everything appears to be there except for the comic image itself. I switched over to xyliatales.com and still have the same problem. When I tried the direct links, I got blank pages with only the link written on the page. I hope this helps.

i haven’t been able too see it either. at least not the newest page. and i have no idea why. i don’t have macafee, that thing is evil!

Here, Firefox 3.5.3 thinks the image has size 0, even when using the direct link.

I *finally* remembered to try from home (Firefox 3.5 on Windows Vista SP1), and got to see the last couple of weeks. From work, using IE7 (version 7.0.5730.13CO specifically) on Windows XP SP2, I am still getting results as described by Dennari above. The entire site *appears* to display correctly, except for the comic image itself. This is also true for all archive pages I’ve checked. Entering the URL for the image directly (http://xyliatales.com/comics/2009-09-14.jpg for example) leads to a missing image icon.
I’ve had similar results on other webcomics I tried to visit in the past because our company uses Websense web filtering, which can do some screwy things. Usually, though, those cases involve situations where the missing image is actually hosted at a different site than the rest of the page. Trying the URL directly in those cases usually shows a blocking screen.
I’d say there’s a good chance this is still related to my company’s bizarre and often arbitrary web filtering rules, but it looks like others are having similar issues.

Just had a thought. It seems that it’s only the images in http://xyliatales.com/comics/ that are not being displayed. Perhaps it’s some kind of odd permissions problem?
September 18th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
@Pooga, checked the permissions, nothing wrong there. I am pretty sure this problem with the comics is a mixture of user-related issues (security/filtering/old browsers) and image encoding on Barb’s end. If some comics are showing in the comics folder, it couldn’t be permissions. If all the but the most recent pages since the upgrade are showing, then it some sort of image-specific problem. It can’t be site-related. Nothing is correlating enough to pinpoint 1 cause. It’s multiple causes on multiple ends. The problem is fixing it for everyone.

I seriously doubt that it’s user error, since this is the only image in the entirety of the internet, much less this comic site, that I’m having difficulty seeing, and there are so many people suffering from this identical problem.

I still can’t view the comic on IE 8.0.6001, but I can view it on Firefox 3.5.2, just FYI

Thanks everyone for letting us know about your problems with the site. I’m going to try to reload the last two pages in just a moment- hoepfully this may solve the problem.
Thanks!
Barb

I’m not sure what was changed, but it worked beautifully for me. I can now see the comic on both google chrome and internet explorer.
Thank you!

Kaylana- Great! Thank you for sharing the info. I reloaded the pages. My operating system was corrupted and had been going down hill for a couple weeks- it’s possible that when I uploaded the pages, bits of information were not included that some of you needed to view them. It’s the only piece of the puzzle that seems to make sense.
I hope everyone else is able to view the images now and going forward! Thank you everyone for your help in sharing info so we could troubleshoot the issue.

The current page is still missing in Firefox. It shows up fine in Safari. Previous comics are fine, it’s only the latest one that is always missing. Some page code on the main page apparently has compatibility issues.
